FAR OUT

Thank you for your interest in reviewing or showing FAR OUT: Life On & After the Commune. Below, you will find additional information about the film's initial success, public interest, and press coverage. Please contact Charlie at  clight@gmpfilms for interviews or to schedule a showing.

Far Out: Life On & After the Commune traces fifty years in the lives of a group of New England writers, activists and artists. It conveys how the 1960s counterculture, embodied in two rural communes, transformed America. The story begins when a group of radical journalists leave New York for a new life in the country and follows them from the back-to-the-land movement to a new discovery of political commitment.

We premiered the film at the Latchis Theater in Brattleboro, Vermont, at the beginning of September. The premiere showing drew 550 people, setting a 25-year attendance record for the theater. Attendance remained high throughout the initial week-long run, and due to continued community interest and high attendance, the Latchis extended the film's run for another three weeks. The most recent count of tickets sold stands at 1636, and we're still selling! The film has generated a lot of buzz during its month-long run at the Latchis, and we've received extensive press coverage, some of which you will find below.

I just returned from the Newburyport Film Festival, where "Far Out" was one of only two films that sold out at the theater and was recognized as the Best New England Film. Showings are scheduled for theaters throughout the Northeast, including at the Savoy in Montpelier, VT, and the Garden Cinema in Greenfield, MA, in October. The film will also be part of the Vermont International Film Festival in Burlington, VT, and the Monadnock Film Festival in Keene, NH. Additional showings are scheduled at the Lexington Venue in Massachusetts, Peterboro, NH, Amherst Cinema in MA, and a week-long run at Real Art Ways in Hartford, CT, all scheduled between now and the new year.

Community members throughout New England and the United States have shown a keen interest in this film, and I would be honored if it were considered for a showing at your theater. We have also received significant interest from audience members participating in a post-screening Q&A. I would be happy to discuss hosting such an event at your theater.
