FAR OUT
Thank you for your interest in 'FAR OUT: Life On & After the Commune'. Please find below additional information about the film's initial success, public interest, and press coverage. For interviews and scheduling screenings, please contact Charles Light at clight@gmpfilms.
Far Out: Life On & After the Commune traces fifty years in the lives of a group of New England writers, activists and artists. It conveys how the 1960s counterculture, embodied in two rural communes, transformed America. The story begins when a group of radical journalists leave New York for a new life in the country and follows them from the back-to-the-land movement to a new discovery of political commitment.
We premiered the film at the Latchis Theater in Brattleboro, Vermont, at the beginning of September 2024. That first night showing drew 550 people, setting a 25-year attendance record for the theater. The run was extended and the film played there for five weeks, multiple times per day. It broke five year attendance records and came in second to Barbie for tickets sold.
Far Out has gone on to sell out theaters in Newburyport, Amherst, Greenfield and Turners Falls in Massachusetts; Brattleboro, Burlington and Montpelier in Vermont; Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Los Angeles, CA and Portland, Maine. It has or will show at over 32 theaters, many for extended runs.
Far Out has garnered some great reviews and attracted responsive, enthusiastic and thoughtful audiences. We have generally held post screening discussions and Q&A’s featuring myself, the filmmaker, along with others who have been part of the film’s creation or long time commune members. These have been incredibly enlightening both for the participants and ourselves.
Community members throughout New England and the United States have shown a keen interest in this film, and I would be honored if it were considered for a showing at your theater. We have also received significant interest from audience members participating in a post-screening Q&A. I would be happy to discuss hosting such an event at your theater.
